This is probably a very obvious thing to just put out there…i mean, will you just eat something without knowing what it is right?….
Hmm.., lets take a moment to think about it critically though, when was the last time you as an individual thought to yourself while eating ‘oh this is such a balanced diet, i put together this beans and rice with palm oil/vegetable stew and eggs to go with this fruit juice and water’? Or say you thought to yourself: we had bread and egg with tea in the morning, we should eat beans and plantain this afternoon? Not just randomly choosing food because its what you feel like eating?
I for one when im eating or planning on what to eat, i just opt for the food that appeals to me at that moment, not really caring for all the food components and how balanced it is or how it will nourish me. Most of the time i just want to eat something and be full.
Sometimes and let me say many times those food that gives that appeal are junk food that dont nourish but add up toxins in our system.
There was once a time i always wanted to take fizzy(i mean the usual coke, sprite, fanta etc…) drinks along with my food, and only then did i feel like i had had a good meal, until i found out the harmful effect the drinks have on our body. And even now, it takes me a lot of concious efforts not to take one of those drinks especially when i eat out.
However, the same doesnt apply to the way i feed my kids and this is what sparked this thought in me…i’m really protective of my kids, i put in a lot of thought into what i prepare for them. I ensure they dont take just any kind of snack, i monitor the kinds of drinks they can have (by the way i favour caprisonne, ribenna and plain yoghurts) i ensure they eat fruits and try to make every of their meals balanced. This then got me thinking about how i conciously make my children eat well, while i’ve completely neglected my own self!
Moral lesson: eating conciously is a must, we must take care of ourselves. Not everything that appeals to us is good. We must take the time to ensure every meal is balanced,(you plan a balanced meal diet for the an entire week, then put in tabular form and paste it in your kitchen, that way you wont forget) it doesnt even cost much to do this. Do away with foods that break down your system and only eat foods that build up your system. Above all dont over eat or undereat your food portions and always eat at the right time.
