Lip smacking, taste bud satisfying , Health boosting parfaits can be yours in a matter of minutes. And you don’t need to break the bank to make it yourself in the comfort of your kitchen..yesss you read it right!
When, I first heard the word ‘parfait’ I wondered what it was…then, I thought it would cost so much to buy just a cup of it. But, I’m a curious person and I like to try out new recipes, so I told myself: How hard can it be to make this thing?
That question propelled me to find out what it really is and how it is made
For starters, ‘parfait’ is French for ‘perfect’ and as the name implies its a perfect dessert and also perfect for a healthy breakfast for kids and even adults.
There are different types of parfait recipes. The most common are the French and American recipes
The French recipe involves mixing cream, eggs, sugar syrup and optionally add alcohol which gives the custard texture cream base which you put in alternating layers with fruits and nuts of your choice.
The US recipe is just the French recipe with a little twist, which is layering parfait cream with ice cream, fruits and nuts in alternate fashion. Topped with whipped cream, fresh fruits and liqueur (optional) liqueurs are alcoholic drinks made up of flavorings of sugar, fruits, herbs and spices. Its usually served in tall glass cups that will show the layers and it could also be served in short sturdy cups.
However, in recent time, there’s a new kind of parfait that is gaining ground and winning people’s heart because its pretty straightforward and quite healthy.
It is called ‘Yoghurt parfait’ or ‘Fruit parfait’
Which is what I have made as shown in the picture below.
The good thing with this recipe is there’s no strict rule about the fruits or nut to use. You can tweak it to your taste or to what you have available in your home.
Its simply just layers in alternate fashion of yoghurt and fruits then topped with Granola!
How I made my Fruit parfait
1) plain yoghurt
3) Red apples
4) corn flakes or Granola
• peel and dice the pineapples in tiny pieces
• cut the apples in small to medium sizes
• mix the two fruits together
• put some of the mixed fruit in the cup
•put a layer of yoghurt
•add on some mixed fruit
•put a layer of yoghurt
•Top it with corn flakes or Granola or fruit and fiber (the common recipe is Granola, but I use whatever crunchy cereal I have at any given time).
*Note: you can add nuts like cashew nuts, groundnut to the fruit mix
Also, you can use any kind of fruits you want such as; strawberries, grapes, sweet melons, bananas, water melons etc.. The more colors of fruits you mix the better and more beautiful it looks.
Finally, you can freeze it or eat it right away!
Just indulge yourself and your family in this healthy and easy dessert. You will be happy you did!
